Sunday Patchwork #12

My creative routines have been thrown off course the last few years. Perhaps it’s more accurate to say, I’ve denied myself the time to create that I used to prioritize. This Sunday, I felt the need to tap back into my long lost Sunday Patchwork routine. Based on my Sunday Patchwork #11, it’s been fourteen years since I got out of this habit. I realized today, as I scrolled through my past posts that it’s the long form documenting that I’ve also been missing.

My inspiration for this simple piece started from the Kona Colour Society’s first bundle – Mariposa. I’ve been playing with these colours for a month, mostly making hourglass blocks. I wanted to spend some time doing improv, so I started by sewing some strips together. My intention was to start cutting that initial strip set up into smaller pieces to re-sew back together, but in the end I felt really satisfied by the simple combination of colours in strips. I made a matching ‘block’ of strips which I’ll be using as the main panels for a Noodlehead Plover Pouch. I’ll be using some Olive Essex Yarn Dyed for the side panels.

I’m going to try to keep up with some form of Sunday Patchwork going forward. It always felt like a version of meditation and a form of self care. More of that, please.
