My patchwork Plover Pouch is complete and I absolutely love it. This is the largest size of three and I immediately want to make the other two sizes and then a dozen more. What is it about pouches?! I will never have enough of them!
As with all Noodlehead patterns, there are so many lovely details. I particularly love the zipper panel detail and the contrasting side/bottom panels. I chose to do all those in Olive Essex which adds some nice texture beside the solid patchwork.

I’ve never used mesh for a pocket, so I was curious to try that out. I really don’t like foldover elastic, but it seems important to allow the pocket to have some stretch. I always like to try to follow a pattern the first time around to experience the original design as much as possible. It was extremely fiddly and frustrating trying to sew it to the edge of the mesh though. In the end, I machine basted it in place first and that helped a bit. I think I would try just a fabric binding next time.

The rest of the constructions was straightforward and came together easily. Weird but true – I enjoy the opportunity to do a welt opening for a zippered pocket. I added two Kylie and the Machine labels. Perhaps that’s overkill but I love to hide one inside a zippered pocket and I had one sparkly ‘Fabulous’ label in my stash that was calling for its’ moment.

The snaps on the tabs of the zipper are decorative, I considered using some cute vintage buttons, but I had my snap tool handy and just added some big antique brass snaps to wrap up the project. The final step is sewing up the hole in the lining, and it’s questionable whether that will ever get done. It’s my definitely signature move to leave that step undone, unless I’m gifting the project.
I didn’t realize until I had completed the pouch that I ‘may’ have been influenced by Cadbury Mini Eggs when choosing my colours from the Kona Colour Society Mariposa palette. It certainly wasn’t intentional, but it’s hard to deny how perfectly they coordinate.
