So, my camera was stolen yesterday. Someone came into the workroom, saw it on a table where I had been photographing the new issue of Uppercase and took it. It was not until a little bit later on that I noticed it was missing when I went to grab it during the Stitch n’ Bitch. Shame on me for being so trusting and leaving it out in the open in my space. I find it extremely shocking that this has happened, especially since I always view the workroom as a special community space where people can feel welcome, safe and inspired.
I try to keep things pretty upbeat here. Crafts and making things are a very happy place for me and that’s what I work to share with you as much as possible. My camera is such a big part of that. Of course, I will replace the camera and my lens, but unfortunately not the photos that I hadn’t yet downloaded. It seems as though I will have a few blank days in my 365.
I had a Nikon D40, which I just discovered they don’t make anymore. Do you have any camera suggestions for me? I do like Nikon a lot and it seems like the D90 is the only comparable option. Does anyone have this camera?

March 31, 2010 of 365 : oksana machine quilting her nine patch quilt
Oksana has been working hard on completing her Presto Nine Patch quilt. She put in a lot of extra work to make it a larger size and has been diligently coming by the shop to complete her machine quilting. She’s now finishing off the quilt with some hand quilting and I’m looking forward to seeing the quilt completed!

March 30, 2010 of 365 : becky’s feet + crochet triangles in progress
Becky is always cooking up something super crafty. Her current project is currently installed in the window of the Knit Cafe. Colourfully crochet triangles that have been stitched together. Becky dropped by to lay all her triangles out on our large cutting table before sewing them together. I snapped a few photos of her taking photos of her project in progress.

March 29, 2010 of 365 : fox stuffie kit by keiley stewart
The second year students of the Sheridan Textile Studio program have to do a project each year where they develop textiles for a ‘client’. This year, ‘the workroom’ was their client. Over the course of several weeks, I met with the students a few times to give them a profile of the workroom and feedback on their ideas. I was absolutely delighted with all the wonderful concepts they came up with. Check out all the students’ projects here. We’re hoping to display some of them here in the shop at the beginning of the summer.

March 28, 2010 of 365 : cottontail bunny made by claire milne
This was actually a really sad day for me. My Uncle Pat had passed away very early in the morning, surrounded by many of my family members in the hospital. I went to Quilt Sunday for some crafty comfort and dear Claire gave me this darling bunny gift. The timing couldn’t have been more perfect. I’ve named her, ‘Cottontail’, from one of my favourite stories, “Peter Rabbit”. Her tail is actually felted wool, but I think this is okay. Thank you, Claire! This bunny is very special to me.
Claire will be at the Spring Trunk Show this Sunday. Cross your fingers that she’ll be bringing some more bunny friends!

March 27, 2010 of 365 : blank egg ready for pysanky
Hello! I’m going to try to catch up with my posting this week. I have a huge backlog of things to share with you!
We hosted three Pysanky workshops before Easter and everyone had so much fun. We had people of all ages learning the Ukrainian tradition of decorating eggs. The results were very inspiring and I think we’ve just started a new yearly workroom tradition. Read an interview with our instructor, Andrei Gravelle, on Toronto Craft Alert.

I’ve really been enjoying the West Toronto Rail Path. Right now it just goes as far south as Dundas. I can’t wait until it goes even farther.

March 23, 2010 of 365 : wet pavement reflections at dundas & lansdowne
Sometimes it’s really great when I haven’t taken a photo by nightfall. I’d been hoping to try taking photos of light reflections on a wet night, so I can check that off my list!
